SOUNDS OF BATHURST 2022

After the resounding success of the inaugural SOUNDS OF BATHURST limited edition whisky, we’re thrilled to announce the return of the unique spirit just in time for the annual Bathurst 1000 race around Mount Panorama.

In 2021, whisky lovers across the country snapped up the special edition range in record time, leaving no illusion as to how popular this innovative liquid was amongst fans of both Supercars and whisky. This year’s limited-edition collection includes Penrite Racing car #10 of reigning Bathurst champion Lee Holdsworth and car #26 of 2017 winner David Reynolds. Each bottle is personalised with the with the drivers’ racing numbers and names on the custom label, as well as a map of the famous racing track.

Research has shown that the aging process of whisky can be sped up by using ultrasonic waves – in this case the sound of Supercar engines vibrating through barrels of whisky. The reserve grade NED Whisky barrels were matured at the NED Whisky barrel house in Melbourne inside the NED sensory container to the recording of Holdsworth and Reynolds’ respective laps at Bathurst last year. The NED sensory container is a custom-made sound space which allows the roar of a V8 engine to be blasted 24 hours a day at the barrels. The soundproof space concentrates the sound and vibration of the engine noise into the entire floor, allowing more transference of the sound into the whisky.

Master Distiller Sebastian Reaburn said after the success of the 2021 edition he was eager to see what him and his team could do with this year’s collection.

“The introduction of NED sensory container was an exciting addition to the 2022 project as it allowed us to increase the hours of sound we blasted,” he said.
“We were blown away with the change in the quality and complexity of the whisky of the 12 barrels we locked away. This year’s liquid has all the classic NED characteristics of rich oak and caramel but oozes coffee and dark chocolate with a lingering sweet oak finish.”

“The SOUNDS OF BATHURST release is another example of how NED Whisky is merging technology and innovation to bring consumers premium Australian Spirits in exciting ways. We can’t wait to share this release with lovers of Supercars and whisky – we think it is one of our best yet.”

Aged to perfection, with the sweet sounds of a roaring V8 engine pumping through each oak barrel. It’s the boldest drink, for the greatest race in Australia.
