THE STORY

At NED Whisky, we’ve taken inspiration from one of Ned Kelly’s earliest acts of bravery for our new reserve grade spirit – NED Green Sash Reserve Australian Whisky. Aged just 10-years-old, Ned saved a boy from drowning in the creek at the town of Avenel in Victoria and was awarded a green sash by the boy’s parents. Ned wore this sash with pride as a symbol of courage throughout his life and was found wearing it under his amour at his last stand in Glenrowan. NED Green Sash Reserve Whisky pays homage to Ned’s character, our thirst to make exceptional whisky and courage to push the boundaries of traditional whisky production.

THE WHISKY

At NED we challenge all aspects of production – from mashing, fermenting and distilling, to maturation. For this unique spirit we focused on the maturation process, originally trialled through our Gold Medal and Trophy winning Wanted Series collection. Using the finest Victorian grain from a local farmers co-up, NED Whisky begins its journey as a triple grain sour mash fermentation. Corn gives our premium whisky a mellow texture and flavours of vanilla and caramel. Soft orange and fruit flavours are derived from the wheat and barley rounds out the grain bill with a rich nutty and cereal note. We source American oak barrels so that the whisky extracts beautiful flavours of oak, vanilla and caramel from the charred and toasted barrels. It’s also what gives NED Whisky it’s rich golden hue. The Melbourne weather sets the stage for perfect maturation. The whisky is able to extract more rich flavours as the liquid breaths in and out of the barrel with changes in temperature and pressure. For NED Green Sash we selected premium aged barrels of reserve NED Whisky, and then harvest the whisky over toasted American oak for extra character and complexity.

TASTING NOTES

Bottled at 44% ABV, this premium whisky has tastes of caramel, vanilla and dark chocolate and a long finish of sweet oak and orange, making NED Green Sash a truly extraordinary whisky.
